Choosing Doing Over Feeling 2009-12-05
My challenge to myself during the next 27 days is to be not led by my feelings. I will rely on my goals to motivate me and continue to do what I need to do everyday regardless of what mood I’m in.

This is HUGE. I am down 8lbs...it feels good...but more importantly, I am committed to not losing these same 8lbs again...this Christmas or next.

Start Planning Your 2009 Goals Now.

Don't wait until January 1, 2009 to start planning your fitness goals. The best time to do it is now.

I've gone back and forth over the years about whether or not New Year's Resolutions work. Whatever side of the fence you're on about resolutions, you should know that January 1st is not the time to start planning your goals for the new year. The time to start planning is now.

I'm currently working on setting some health and fitness goals for 2009.( you can call them resolutions if you like)I've learned over the years that it takes a few weeks to formulate your goals.

Here's how I put my goals together:

  • Review my energy levels, weight, strength and goals in 2008 assess my successes and challenges.
  • Decide on something that will challenge me at a higher level than the previous year.
  • Tentatively chose work out days and times and plan how to schedule work around it.
  • Talk to a couple potential people who might be good workout buddies ( my current partner is going away for a year)
  • Set a budget (race registrations, swimming coach)
  • Write out the goals

2009 in Review

Successes

  • completed my first 30 day Isagenix cleanse
  • completed my first 30k and full-marathon
  • maintained a healthy weight for most of the year
  • had a great running buddy

Challenges

  • low energy levels in the fall
  • undisciplined eating after my marathon
  • weight is higher at the end of the year than the beginning ( @ 3 lbs)
  • shoulder pain from over-training

Potential Goals for 2009

  • participate in 3-4 races throughout the year
  • participate in a race in another country
  • maintain weight
  • complete another cleanse in spring and fall

That's all for now. I'm going to spend some more time thinking about some more goals I would like to accomplish next year.
