Choosing Doing Over Feeling 2009-12-05
My challenge to myself during the next 27 days is to be not led by my feelings. I will rely on my goals to motivate me and continue to do what I need to do everyday regardless of what mood I’m in.

This is HUGE. I am down 8lbs...it feels good...but more importantly, I am committed to not losing these same 8lbs again...this Christmas or next.

Get Over It !

I'm all for gradual change when it comes to health and fitness but in order for change to occur there are some things that you've just going to have to get over if you ever want to expereince success in your health.

My clients can all attest to the fact that I'm not one of these 'killer' trainers. My approach is more gentle and loving ( not that you can't be a 'killer' and loving at the same time). That being said, I realize that there are a few things that require a straight up approach-- no sugar coating, no soft selling.

There's no gentle way of getting rid of wrong beliefs. Make up your mind that they will not be part of your life.

Here is my list of 5 wrong mindsets and beliefs that you need to give up and get over right away if you want to have success in your fitness program in 2009.

1. Get over your habit of giving up- success at anything is going to take some hard work. The more you give up the easier it becomes to give up in the future. Develop a never quit attitude and watch your fitness levels and confidence increase.

2. Get over your all or nothing behaviours- so what if you blow it-- get back on your horse and just pick up where you left off. Also, you can eat just one or two cookies without eating the whole bag!

3. Get over the belief that it should be easy- Somewhere in our lives we've been led to beleive that there is a magic bullit for staying healthy-- it's a lie. Exercise is fun but it also hard work. Success at anything will require some effort and commitment so roll up your sleeves and get ready to work.

4. Get over how you feel- for most of us, exercise is not a natural habit- the psychotic people you see outside running in hailstorms and -40 degree temperatures are not normal. They are infact the abnormal ones. If we waited until we felt like exercising to do it, it might become an annual event. Like Nike says 'Just do it' in spite of your feelings.

5. Get over the fact that you may have a slow metabolism, or thyroid issue or big bones. Although they all may be true, if you keep harping on these issues, they will continue to prevent you from achieving success. You can have reasons or results but you can't have both so choose results and kick every reason that you may have out the door. They are standing in the way of your results.

I wish you all the best in your fitness endeavours this year.

Love Cathy
